Valiant Nintendo Poster VALIANT NINTENDO PROMOTIONAL POSTER

This poster was supposed to let customers know that Valiant Nintendo comic books were sold in the establishment. It was advertised in the Nintendo Comics System - Sneak Preview comic.

Nintendo Power Valiant Advertisement
NINTENDO POWER VALIANT ADVERTISEMENT

Seen in issue number 12 (May-June 1990) of Nintendo Power, this ad, besides just promoting a fellow Nintendo license, contains quotes from then president Jim Shooter.

VALIANT NINTENDO PROMOTIONAL ADVERTISEMENT

A poster advertisement promoting the new line of Nintendo comics. Interesting is how the writers and artists are credited within the ad, and how a 'Coming Soon' message sits along side an image of Magnus. Possibly included within a magazine or catalog.

Article from Nintendo Power #23 April 1991 Article from Nintendo Power #28 September 1991
NINTENDO POWER HOWARD AND NESTER VALIANT MENTIONS

In Nintendo Power issues 23 and 28 are mentions of Voyager Communications and Art Nichol's work on illustrating the magazine comic strip Howard and Nester. Starting with issue 23 Mr. Nichol's became the comic's artist, but I do not know how long he continued before someone else took over. Check out the fish from issue 26, it looks a lot like the fish seen in other Nintendo comics.

Nintendo Comic System Three Pack NINTENDO COMICS SYSTEM THREE PACK

This collection of three comics (Super Mario Bros. #2, Legend of Zelda #1, Captain N The Game Master #1) was sold as a package probably in mass market retail stores. It is possible the two known no price variants were included with this pack.

The Legend of Zelda Cover Variation THE LEGEND OF ZELDA (STOCK COVER) #1 COVER VARIATION

As you can see from the images, the bottom one being from the original comic, someone at Valiant poorly edited out the issue cost. Possibly created for a second printing, or for inclusion in the above mentioned comic three pack for mass market stores.

Nintendo Comics System (GN) #2 Cover Variation NINTENDO COMICS SYSTEM (GN) #2 COVER VARIATION

This more colorful cover to the second Nintendo Comics System issue was probably for a second printing. The inside contents match those of the black cover version.

The Best of the Super Mario Bros. Signatures THE BEST OF THE SUPER MARIO BROS. (HC) SIGNATURE CARDS

On the inside first page of selected Best of the Super Mario Bros. collection hardcover were signature cards signed by Valiant talent. These may have come from a comic convention. Featured here are my two cards for both Art Nichols and Jade Moede.

Nintendo Magasinet 1991_08 Nintendo Magasinet 1991_10 Nintendo Magasinet 1991_11-12
NINTENDO MAGASINET - SWEDISH NINTENDO GAME AND COMIC MAGAZINE

The offical Swedish publication of Valiant's Nintendo comics were printed in Nintendo Magasinet, and ran from 1990 through 1993. The magazine eventually moved away from the comics to focus on the games themselves. An interesting feature of these were the covers, recolored from the US covers, and twice taken from interior panels.

The cover image of the first comic above is taken from the Punch-Out story Outsiders, Page 9, Panel 1 - the second cover is taken from the Super Mario Bros story The Kingdom Enquirer, Page 3, Panel 2 - and the third cover is taken from Nintendo Comics System #9.
